Ferragudo, in Southern Portugal, an enchanting little town climbing an impossibly steep hill. Its steep steps and narrow alleyways lead you to the top of the hill with amazing views of river and sea.

This was a hot day around noon with nearly vertical shadows. I couldn’t resist this wild bougainvillea and its descending shadows, with the mystery of what’s behind this dark green doors…

Ilana Richardson is an internationally known watercolour artist, and top-selling printmaker. She has exhibited in London and internationally for many years.
